It is wonderful to see so many people enjoying the updated facilities at Bangalow Sports Fields. The various sporting codes are making good use of the fields and the walking track has provided a great facility for many to get moving and exercising in such a lovely, natural environment. The Sports Association is continuing to work towards the installation of security lighting for the entire walking track with solar lights which will provide an additional couple of hours lighting after sunset each evening.
We would like to remind the community that the Bangalow Sports Fields are NOT AN OFF LEASH DOG EXERCISE AREA. Dogs should be kept off the sports fields and out of the bush regeneration area along the creek bank. Dogs cause damage to the young trees and plants in the regen area and are excluded from the sports fields due to health and safety concerns, especially from the bacteria and parasites transmitted through their urine and faeces. Dog owners are welcome to exercise their dogs ON LEADS ON THE PATHWAY and to pick up any poo and dispose of in the rubbish bins. The Council website has further details of off-leash dog exercise areas in Bangalow.
All of the sports fields are being put to good use with winter sports. On any weekend there are games of soccer and junior rugby union, senior rugby union and senior Aussie Rules. On Sunday mornings there is soccer and junior Aussie Rules games. Our grounds also provide training courts for netball and the tennis courts are used extensively on every day (and night). We should all be proud of our town’s extensive sports participation. Rachel Wallen
