national tree planting day

World Tree Day on Sunday 1 August at 9am is to be recognized in Bangalow with a big community planting at the Sports Fields. Rainforest Rescue is the generous sponsor of this event providing 1000 plants to hopefully get into the ground on the day and the event will be run by Bangalow Land and Rivercare.

An indigenous regeneration team, Madhima Gulgan, has been preparing the riparian zone (lower bank) of Byron Creek for several months in preparation for this planting. The site has been weeded and holes will be pre-dug on the day for easy planting.

This area is now being enjoyed by many in the community which is great to see. Most of the work has been done by a handful of volunteers and an Envirofund grant. Organisers are hoping for a big show of support to further enhance this regeneration project. Park at the Bowlo before signing in at the canteen area at the sports field. This is the final community planting planned for the sports field so please mark your calendar and be there: many hands make light work. For info contact Liz 6687 1309. Liz Gander
