Clover Hill BBQ area planting

Through a combined Council and community effort, residents of Bangalow’s Clover Hill estate now have a nice BBQ area with new landscaping. This is in a spare corner of land opposite the Bowling Club, where there is a storm water pond. Council put in the BBQ shelter and concrete path last year and a community group did the planting recently under the co-ordination of nearby resident Richie Allen.

Richie told me 750 plants were put in and mulched in less than four hours! He co-opted a group of 45 neighbours, friends, Landcare volunteers and people in the landscaping and building industries. These volunteers were too many to list in full, but Richie asked me to particularly mention the following key players: Simon Evans a super organiser; The Harris family ‘Piccadilly Farms’ for 700 Lomandra plants; Terry Wright and Byron Tree Services for large truckloads of mulch (from nearby work areas); Council for some shrubs and trees and his wife Kylie who cooked 150 sausages and arranged the wine, beer and juices.

What a fantastic effort – well done everyone!

Richie tells me he is next hoping to organise a big working bee to help the Landcare people with maintenance of their plantings around the new sporting fields (see above). Brian Sundstrom
