All Souls Anglican Church Hall

Heartbeat continues its series of articles describing the wonders of the many local halls in the 2479 area. The idea is to advise readers of the array of halls, their specific beauties (and rental prices), making it easier to select the right one when an event is planned, reports Christobel Munson.

Located adjoining the All Souls Anglican Church at 1 Ashton Street, Bangalow, is the church hall. Built of brick in around 1959, (with a crazy-paving front facade, popular at the time), the building contains both a dance hall with a stage, and a separate dining hall, with kitchen. The stage has new curtains, and the floors are of wood.

Cost to rent

The hall is rented for $10 an hour.July

Capacity

The larger hall has seating for 80-90 people.

Facilities

Facilities include a kitchen and bathrooms, “recently done up”. There are no projectors or sound equipment, which can be brought in for any event.

Who uses it?

Depending on the time of day, or day of the week, this hall really hops! You could find a Zumba dance class happening (“hypnotic Latin rhythms, easy-to-follow-moves, calorie burning”); or perhaps a Pranayama Yoga class, or even Shotokan Karate Do.

Father Trickey says real estate agents hold meetings there, as does a Narcotics Anonymous group.

During school term, staff from the Lismore Conservatorium teach music classes here, and the Garden Club and Quilters also use the facilities. On Thursday evenings, the Birdsong choir can be found practising here, while a recent function had a sit-down dinner for 80+ people in the larger hall. The dining hall is often used for morning and afternoon teas.

For about 20 years, every Tuesday (outside school holidays) between 10am-12 noon the Bangalow Play Group has met here, providing activities for 0-5-year-old children.

“It’s a very friendly, supportive environment,” says Kim who runs the group, (0431 939 956). “It’s very welcoming, and a lifesaver for newcomers to town.” The hall backs onto the (fenced-off) creek, and there’s plenty of room for kids to play inside, or at the sandpit on the lawn. Over the fence you see the Trickey’s beautifully organised vegetable garden, an inspiration!

Any restrictions?

Renters need to have public liability insurance.
