THE BIG JOKE COMEDY FESTIVAL
MARCH 18-21, 2010. Bangalow, NSW
MARCH 18-21, 2010. Bangalow, NSW
It’s that time of year again – The Big Joke is back and now in its fourth year, with laughter and fun for the whole family.
This is a world-class festival defined by Tourism NSW as ‘a significant regional event’. Some of the best comedians in Australia and internationally have performed at the Big Joke in previous years and more are booked for 2010. This year The Big Joke is proud to announce its first major partnership with Gaia Retreat & Spa. Olivia Newton-John, co-founder and owner of Gaia, who knows how important a good laugh is, says: “Thank goodness for the people in our lives who can make us laugh.”
The 2010 festival brings a host of the funniest people around to get you laughing ‘til your face hurts’. As well as shows at the A&I Hall, in a first for the festival, Bangalow will be invaded by street performers for the weekend – they may steal your sandwiches, sip your soda or just make you laugh. They are just one of the free events this year and promise to delight both big and little kids alike.
The Village Idiot Stand Up Competition, also in its fourth year, is on again with a prize pool of $800 and treats from Gaia Retreat & Spa up for grabs. It’s a prime opportunity for emerging comedians to strut their stuff in front of an appreciative audience. To enter visit www.thebigjoke.com.au or call 6629 1457.
Village Idiot heats are free to attend. They’re held in the Festival bar at the A&I Hall where you can relax and enjoy a drink or something yummy to eat while you’re laughing. The Grand Final will be MC’d by Tom Gleeson, seriously one of the funniest men in Australia.
The Big Joke has booked Peter Berner, whose style has been described as paint stripper for the mind…bitingly satirical and hysterically funny. The funniest stand up in Britain, Jeff Green (who now lives here), will be appearing and well as the devastatingly funny Jackie Loeb plus Chris Radburn, a former lawyer who saw the brighter side of life. The Axis of Awesome will blow your face off its hinges and the simply stunning Vanessa Wagner will dazzle, along with our favourite local comedians including Nick Penn, Ellen Briggs and Sandy Gandhi. And Mandy Nolan’s Funny Kids will crack you up.
