A great opportunity for two local young classical musicians to win a place at a winter music school.
Each year in July one of the most prestigious winter music schools in Australia is held in Rockhampton, Queensland; the Sunwater and Stanwell Winter Music School which runs from
4 to 10 July, 2010.
The school is usually restricted to secondary students from Queensland but this year, by special arrangement with the school’s artistic director, Paul Dean, there will be an opportunity for two students who reside in Bangalow (or the 2479 postcode) to attend. (Paul Dean is also the artistic director of the Bangalow Music Festival.)
The Bangalow Lions Club and the Bangalow Chamber of Commerce are each offering a scholarship valued at $900 which will cover travel, tuition, accommodation and meals (at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School) and incidental costs. The scholarships are to be named ‘The Sandi Dean Music Scholarships’ in memory of the late Sandi Dean, a much loved Bangalow community identity and tireless worker for the Bangalow Lions Club.
This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring young musicians to learn from some of the best teachers and classical musicians in Australia.
Details have been sent to the Head Music Teachers at all secondary schools (government and non-government) in this area. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in 2010 and reside in the 2479 postcode area.
The closing date for applications for these scholarships will be Friday, 26 March 2010. Please speak to your music teacher or local co-ordinator, Michael Malloy, on 6687 1081. Michael Malloy
